What? No Rust?
Joel Kotkin's latest piece at The American includes a chart titled "The Industrial Belt." There wasn't a single entry referring to the "r" term in this entire piece about the Midwest and manufacturing. [Maybe he read my A Rust Belt Thesaurus Entry column. Kotkin's piece merits a new entry, actually.]
But that fact is only one of a multitude of reasons to check it out.
One could like the headline. "Right in the Middle: The Midwest's Growth Lessons for America."
Someone from Columbus could like the positive way that city is portrayed throughout the piece, with data to back it up.
My kids ought to like his conclusion: "A new industrial paradigm in the region could end up being a large source of new wealth creation in the coming generation."
