Joel Kotkin's NewGeography.com has a great report by Rob Sentz on manufacturing that's a must-read. This will make your month.
See Top Manufacturing Sectors for 2011 and, if you watch manufacturing, be prepared to like what you read.
Here's a few tidbits:
"The Institute of Supply Management’s manufacturing index has shown 33 consecutive months of expansion." I had missed that one.
"A survey by the Boston Consulting Group in February found more than one-third of U.S.-based manufacturing executives at companies with sales greater than $1 billion are either planning or considering bringing production back to the United States from China." I had forgotten reading this one.
The in-depth article even includes a list of sectors. Machines shops, the engine of manufacturing, actually added the most jobs of any sector at 21,694 jobs added in 2011.
Check it out.
