. . . Ohio became a state. It was February 19, 1803 when Congress officially created Ohio as the 17th state and the first in the Northwest Territory.
Now, before some history teacher corrects me, know the rest of the story. The 210th version of Ohio Statehood Day won't be until March 1, 2013. That's because Ohio celebrates statehood on the anniversary of the date the Ohio General Assembly first met, not when the federal level acted.
What's 10 days after all these years anyway? Happy 210th Birthday, Ohio!
