A two-day Summit on manufacturing sees numerous companies announce plans to reshore manufacturing work back to the U.S. GE announces a $30 million investment, including two plants in Ohio. The upbeat Summit brings together high-profile Governors and, even, the Commerce Secretary.
Who would have thought Walmart would be the host?
The Washington Post, albeit with a skeptical bias, reports on the Summit which ends today.
In another piece, Walmart CEO Mike Duke had the best line, "I really think we're at a tipping point now for U.S. manufacturing. Transportation costs are going to continue to rise, so I think producing product near consumers is a phenomenon that's happening here in the United States and will be a tremendous opportunity."
