Reliable power is not to be taken for granted.
I shot this photo outside of my office. Our Port Authority owns an electric substation served by AEP Ohio. It serves critical industry on our campus which provides for the national defense.
This substation is a workhorse.
It's had just two outages in 25 years. Yes, 25 years! One was a cross bar down on the 69KV line a mile away. The other was a small F2 tornado hit the service line two miles away. Both times, it was up in less than two hours.
No rolling blackouts. No hurricanes. It's withstood two major derechos/windstorms and more ice storms than we can count, but it's remained reliably available and aided by redundancy.
